Dr. Dougherty is a native Philadelphian who attended LaSalle College High School and graduated Suma Cum Laude from the University of Virginia. He received his medical degree from Harvard University and served his general surgery residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He served an additional year as the Chief Resident for the East Surgical Service before moving on to a vascular surgery fellowship at the Mayo Clinic.
Dr. Dougherty returned to Philadelphia in 1992, and has been an integral member of the teaching staff at Pennsylvania Hospital since. He is a Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania and has served in organizational and leadership positions in local, regional and national vascular societies. He has authored or co-authored over 200 original articles, chapters, editorials, books and abstracts and serves on the editorial staff of the most prominent vascular journals.
Dr. Dougherty has experience and expertise with minimally invasive office-based treatments of all forms of varicose veins and arterial disease.
